Q&A with your DJ, Eddy Mac

Melbourne's best wedding DJ, Eddy Mac

So, what goes into DJing a wedding, anyway? And is a micro wedding any different to a more traditional, larger wedding? We sit down with Eddy Mac, your Little Love Gatherings resident DJ, to ask him a few questions about a party-focussed wedding.

So, what makes a good wedding DJ?

Getting right to the point from the very start, hey?! I am a firm believer that a great DJ - wedding or otherwise - will have the ability to read a crowd and play the right song at the right time. If you managed to get in sync with your crowd, you’ll all be on the same wavelength and go into a flow state. They are always the best parties!

Are there differences in DJing a micro wedding as opposed to a larger, longer wedding?

Almost all of the weddings I play are for non-traditional couples who love a big party and want that type of vibe the whole way through. I often try and get people having a little boogie in their seats if it’s a sit down wedding and really love to play off the energy of fun friends and family (e.g. getting guests to dance their way to the bathrooms is a fun little game of mine…!).

With a longer wedding, their will inevitably be more “down time” (especially for a sit down affair) where you’ll scale back a little and let the room breathe over dinner. Don’t worry, I’m not putting people to sleep, but instead of spinning Diana Ross’ I’m Coming Out, I'm leaning back to Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together or vibing to some Khruangbin.

For a cocktail-style micro wedding on the other hand, from the first moment where guests arrive at the venue, I’ll be on the turntables spinning tunes that pack a punch and will instantly get people in the mood for a good time. This means that guests will feel like that party has started straight from the get go. I’ll keep those vibes nice and high right up until people hit the dance floor, then crank things to 11!

What excites you most about Little Love Gatherings?

I am so pumped to be party of such an awesome crew of suppliers in such a special venue in Brunswick for our micro weddings. I also simply love that the couple has chosen their closest of close friends and family members to celebrate with them for a very intimate day. Because our micro weddings last for 3 hours, the whole thing feels like a party! There are no lull moments or feeling that things are dragging out. Because of this, I can keep the music even more upbeat that I usually do.

Last one! What is your ultimate party-starting song?

I love to drop Marvin Gaye’s Got To Give It Up at the weddings I play. It’s almost impossible NOT to get down to that one!

Where can we get in touch about a micro wedding?

If a micro wedding sounds like it’s your kind of vibe and you’re thinking of getting hitched later this year, you can get in contact via our Contact page.
