Tips for picking a non-traditional wedding outfit

If you don’t like the idea of a stuffy, formal wedding, it’s likely you’ll want to throw tradition out the window for your wedding outfit too.

Whether you're a bride who dreams of wearing a jumpsuit, a groom with a penchant for patterned shirts or just an engaged person wanting to feel fab on their big day, finding your non-traditional wedding outfit can be loads of fun.

Here's your guide to navigating the world of unconventional wedding wear.

Brides: Ditch the gown (if you want!)

  • Embrace the pantsuit or jumpsuit: A chic bridal suit can look absolutely epic. Think crisp whites, bold colors, or playful prints. Add a dramatic skirt or statement jewelry for extra flair. Jumpsuits are also effortlessly cool and perfect for showing off your personality. Choose a flowing silhouette for a romantic vibe or a sleek tailored one for a modern edge.

  • Two-piece/coordinates: Mix and match separates for a customisable look. Pair a playful skirt with a lace top or a tailored trouser with a whimsical crop top.

  • Just add colour: Ditch the white and embrace vibrant hues! Emerald green, sapphire blue, or even a sunflower yellow can make a stunning statement. Or for extra sparkle, wear sequins!

Grooms: Get creative

  • Suit up with personality: Ditch the black and explore a world of patterns, textures, and colours. Don’t be afraid of velvet or linen and vibrant patterns for accessories! We’ve even seen grooms with custom lining in their jackets (our fave being images of their beloved pets!).

  • Say it with your shirt: Let your personality shine through with a statement shirt. Opt for bold prints, unique fabrics, or even a touch of embroidery for a personalised touch.

  • Accesorise to impress: Elevate your look with statement accessories. A colourful pocket square, an out-there tie or even a pair of quirky, custom cufflinks can add personality and flair.

Beyond the binary

You may not identify as a bride OR groom. Remember, your wedding day is about celebrating your love, not conforming to outdated norms. Don't be afraid to break the mold and choose outfits that reflect your identify and style. They don’t need to be wedding-y at all!

Look outside the usual wedding retailers

A bonus tip is to avoid wedding gown and suit retailers altogether. Explore vintage stores, independent designers, and even ready-to-wear non-wedding collections. You might just stumble upon your dream non-traditional wedding outfit where you least expect it.

P.S. Don't forget about footwear! Opt for comfortable and stylish shoes that complement your overall look. Sneakers, boots, or even flats can be a fun and unexpected twist on traditional wedding shoes - and make for fun photos.

Most importantly, have fun! Your wedding day is a celebration of love, so choose outfits that make you feel confident, comfortable and totally you. Embrace your individuality and make your wedding day a true reflection of your unique love story!
